Was ist VocalNexus / What Is Vocalnexus?

Vocalnexus ist ein ehrenamtliches Fanprojekt für Vocaloid und Vocasynth Musik von deutschen Fans.
We at Vocalnexus are a voluntary fanproject about Vocaloid and Vocasynth music based in Germany.

Was machen wir? / What We Do:

Wir informieren über das Thema Vocasynth im deutschsprachigen Raum, starten Fanevents, sind auf Conventions vertreten und haben einen Radiobroadcast.
We inform about the topic of Vocasynth in the German speaking area, start and organise fanevents, participate at Conventions and broadcast our own radio show.

Wie informieren wir? / How We Inform:

Über Workshop-panels auf Conventions erklären wir die Grundlagen zu dieser Art von Musik, dem deutschen Musikrecht und die dahinter stehende Popkultur. An unseren Ständen zeigen wir Original Cds und spielen Musik.
Online informieren wir über neue Musik, Merchandise und andere relevante News zu dem Thema.
In addition to our weekly radio broadcast, we hold Workshoppanels at Conventions to inform about this special kind of music and explain the backgrounds, laying behind it like the basic functionality of Vocasynth technology, the origins in the pop culture as well as our own german music (copy)rights which are a reson why we can broadcast this music weekly.
At our Convention booths u will find a number of original CDs and are likely to listen to them as well and can chat with our members, who love to share their passion about the music.
You can also find us online at several social medias like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or you can even join our very own Discord server to keep up to date with our news about upcoming events, new music, merchandise and everything important in the world of Vocasynth music.

Ist VocalNexus ein Radio? / Is Vocalnexus A Radio?

Nein, wir haben nur eine Sendung auf japanradio.de, welche eine Dauer von drei Stunden hat und jeden Sonntag ab 18:00 Uhr live gespielt wird.
No, Vocalnexus is no radio on it’s own, but we are part of japanradio.de (check out their website too), where we broadcast weekly on Sunday for 3 hours.

Spontaneous Actions like „advertising“ upcoming events like the MikuExpo at conventions. Cooperations with conventions or other fanprojects for example helding Vocamerica at the Aki No Matsuri convention in 2017 or our program at the Digikomi (digital Dokomi) convention in 2020. Fanmeetings as organised before the MikuExpo 2018 in Cologne with kind of a warm up party tot he following concert.

Unsere Finanzen / How Do We Finance Our Project:

Ihr könnt uns freiwillig über Ko-Fi unterstützen. Das Geld wird aber separat wie ein Sparbuch geführt und kommt nur zu speziellen Ereignissen zum Einsatz– Support für Voca-Producer bei deutschsprachigen Conventions
– Konzerte (Vocamerica) oder
– besondere Austellungstücke an unserem Stand

Die Gesamtkosten des Projektes werden von allen Beteiligten an VocalNexus privat bezahlt.
Da jeder im Team andere Aufgaben übernimmt, unterscheiden sich auch entsprechend die Eigeninvestitionen.
Die Ausgaben pro Jahr von Freaky Lulu als Teamleiterin sehen wie folgt aus:

– Anteilige GVL/GEMA Gebühren für Stand und Radio: 300-400 €uro
– Musikeinkauf: 1200 €uro
– Wartung und Instandhaltung von Technik und Equipment: 50 – 200 €uro
– Fahrtkosten zu Conventions: 300 €uro
– Standgebühren auf den Conventionss: um 200 €uro
– Übernachtungen: von 200 – 500 €uro
– Gewinne bei Spielen oder Wettbewerben: 50 – 100 €uro
– Sonstige Radiokosten: 50 €uro
– Sonstige Gebühren: z.b. Zoll: 150 €uro

We are a voluntary fanproject and as such we do finance everything on our own and are far away from making any profit at all. The amount the team members individually pay to keep this project alive relates to their jobs inside the project.

There is a possibility to support us though: Via Ko-Fi you can help us to fund special events like bringing Producers or concerts like Vocamerica to conventions.
In ordert o give you an insight into the costs of running our project, here is for example what team leader Freaky Lulu pays approximately in a year:

– GVL/GEMA (copyright) charges fort he radio broadcast and the booth at conventions: 300-400€
– Average costs for buying and adding new music tot he Vocalnexus collection: 1200€
– Operating the technical equipment for broadcasting etc.: 50-200€
– Driving costs for participation at conventions: 300€
– Charges for running a booth at conventions: -200€
– Costs for accomodation (->hotel) along a convention: 200-500€
– Costs for running games and competitions (-> prizes) throughout broadcasts or conventions: 50-100€
– Other costs for running the radio broadcast: 50€
– Other costs in general like costums duty fort he delivery of new music etc.: 150€

Wie oft spielt ihr einen Titel pro Sendung? / How often do you play a song per show?

Maximal einmal pro Sendung.
Das ist auch so durch die GVL vorgeschrieben.
Ebenso dürfen diese Vorgaben, Producer nur 3x alle 2 Stunden gespielt werden.
Durch eine Auswahl von 6.500 Liedern (stetig steigend) ist es sehr unwahrscheinlich, dass ein Titel mehrfach pro Monat gespielt wird. Es sei denn, er erfreut sich großer Beliebtheit bei den Zuhörern.
As stipulated by the GVL we are allowed to play one song only once per show. As well it is not possible for us to play one producer more than 3-times during 2 hours.
Fortunately the Vocalnexus music collection consists currently of more than 6500 song which implies it is very unlikely a song will be played that often in a month unless he is requested by popular demand.

Bietet ihr Downloads der Sendung an? / Are The Shows Recorded And Available As A “Listen Again“?

Nein.
Alle Sendungen sind grundsätzlich live.
In seltenen Fällen, gibt es eine einmalige Wiederholung, die ebenfalls nur im Radio abgespielt wird.
No.
All our shows on the radio are mostly live and not recorded. Only in rare occasions special shows will be repeated on the radio. There is no “Download or Listen Again“ function on our website for shows u missed.

Aus welchen Quellen bezieht ihr eure Musik? / Where Do We Get Our Music From?

Wir beziehen unsere Musik von den bekannten Plattformen.
Dazu zählen:
– Booth
– Bandcamp
– iTtunes
– Amazon
– CD Japan
– buyee/bhiner als Proxyservice für Japan/China oder direkt durch die Künstler.
Alle erstandenen Titel sind nachweisbar! Digital erworben (mit Rechnung) oder physikalisch als CD
Youtube-Wiedergaben finden bei uns nicht statt, außer es liegt eine schriftliche Bestätigung durch den jeweilgen Producer vor.
The music in the Vocalnexus collection originates from official and trusted platforms only. Mostly we buy the music from
– Booth,
– Bandcamp,
– Itunes,
– Amazon,
– CD Japan,
– buyee/bhiner (if needed as proxy service) or get the music directly from the producers.
Either way all our music can be prooved on request as legally bought via the bills of music-downloads or the physical release. Unreleased music such as Youtube audios can’t and won’t be broadcasted unless we have a written confirmation of the producer him/herself that we are allowed to play this song.

Muss man für das Zuhören bezahlen? / Is Listening To The Radio Broadcast For Free?

Nein.
Sowohl der Stream von Japanradio.de einschließlich der dazugehörige App für Android stehen auch kostenfrei zur Verfügung.
Yes it is. As said earlier, we finance the whole project on our own and as good as we can to offer you everything possible. For listening to our broadcast you only have to visit japanradio.de or download our very own Android App, which of course is free to use as well.

Wie viel Zuhörer habt ihr? / How Large Is Our Average Audience?

Radiobroadcast ist eine Nische gegenüber normalen Radio-Sendern oder Spotify.
Unsere Zahlen bewegen sich in einem Rahmen zwischen 15 – 50 Zuhörern. Auf unseren Discord Server sind mehr als 150 Nutzer angemeldet
Well, as a rather small part of the media landscape our radio broadcast can’t be compared to your usual radio stations. We can be heard worldwide and our community only on our very own Discord Server counts 150 members to the date of this Q/A but the actual number of our audience during the broadcast can vary from 15 to 50 listeners in average.

Was habe ich als Producer von euch? / What We Do For Producers:

Alle Titel, die wir spielen, kaufen wir vorher von euch.
Bevorzugt über Bandcamp oder Booth, damit das Geld direkt ankommt.
Wer bei Institutionen für Musikrecht angemeldet ist, kann zusätzlich Geld bei diesen anfragen, da wir durch die GEMA im internationalen Verbund stehen z.B. zur JASRAC in Japan.
Wir werben für Producer und ihre Arbeiten während der Sendung, damit sie neue Fans durch uns gewinnen können.
If you’re a producer u can trust us your music to be treated respectful. As mentioned above, we get our music via official possibilities to ensure you get paid for what you create. As a GEMA registered broadcast we are part of an international connection to ensure copyrights including the JASRAC in Japan.
For every producer, who is registered at an official copyright institution this means you can even profit more. Another goal of Vocalnexus in this particular case is, that we want to support producer not only financially by buying your music but also by making you more popular in our audiences. We hope that trusting your music to us will bring you more supporters.

Warum macht ihr das? / What Is Our Motivation And Why Do We Run This Project Of Vocalnexus?

Wir sind glühende Fans der Vocasynth Musik und wollen diese im deutschsprachigen Raum fördern und damit Fans eine Plattform in ihrer Muttersprache anbieten.
Well in the end, we are just passionate fans of this kind of music and have felt the need to provide in the german speaing area some sort of a fanproject to bring the community together, inform about whats going on and just share this beautiful hobby we have with you.

Warum macht ihr das nicht in Englisch? / Are We Operating In English As Well?

Auf Englisch gibt es bereits sehr viele Plattformen zum Vocaloid Fandom.
Unser Ziel ist der deutschsprachige Raum Deutschland, Österreich und die Schweiz.
No. As there is already a quite large amount of english projects and platforms for the community, we won’t try to compete with them on a global scale and rather focus on what we can do best: Supporting Vocasynth music in the German speaking area. Of course we are able to keep in contact with producers for example in english and are running a special english channel on our Discord Server for those joining us there.
